Fearless Friday

Recently, I’ve been seeing information about how  itching can be an MS symptoms.   Here is some information from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. I always wondered why this happened. Now, I don’t like to blame everything on MS, but this might be an answer.

“Pruritis (itching) may occur as a symptom of MS. It is one of the family of abnormal sensations — such as “pins and needles” and burning, stabbing, or tearing pains — which may be experienced by people with MS. These sensations are known as dysesthesias, and they are neurologic in origin.

“Dysesthetic itching may occur suddenly and intensely, but for brief periods. It may be present over any part of the body or face. It is different from the generalized itching that can accompany an allergic reaction, as there is no external skin rash or irritation at the site of itching. Corticosteroid ointments applied to the skin are not helpful in relieving this type of dysesthetic itching.”

But in staying with my theme for Friday’s, I will tell you why this Friday was fearless. I woke up early and went swimming at 6:30 AM. I came back, had breakfast, got dressed and ready for the day. Did two loads of laundry, then dropped my mother off at our recreation center so she could do her water therapy. She’s had four doctors appointments in the last week, and they’ve all had very good results! She’s glad that she can start exercising again.

While she was in the therapy pool, I went to CVS to pick up a prescription for her, stopped by the gas station and got gas, went by McDonald’s and got her a cheeseburger and fries for her lunch. I had a salad back home. By the time we got home however, I only had about 10 minutes to eat. Because then I was due at the Billy Graham Training Center for a volunteer position.

My volunteer duties today consisted of an hour and a half of stuffing participant notebooks with agendas, order blanks, evaluations, etc. Then for the next three hours we greeted 300+ participants,  handed out meal tickets, and walked through the notebook with each one of them. All of this, of course, is standing with only short breaks to sit down.

As I was driving home I stopped at Bojangles to get chicken dinners for us. We looked at our dining room menu for tonight and decided we needed something else.    After we ate I had to get the last load out of the dryer, hang up some, fold some, etc. The worst part was that I then had to make my bed.

For those of you that read a blog I posted a while ago, you may know that my bed is very close to the wall and window.   So in order to get the fitted sheet on the corner of the bed that is in the corner of the room, I have to climb on the bed and then lay down to fit the sheet over the mattress. And then of course all the rest of the things you have to do like putting the top sheet on and folding it under etc.

Right now, I’m barely hanging on by a thread. But I am hanging on!  I am glad tomorrow will be a Slow Saturday.   Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Good gosh, Jo Ann–I am worn out just reading this! I think if I had laid on the bed to tuck in the sheet, they would have had to tuck me in right then and there. Have a very wonderful SLOW Saturday–you certainly deserve it.
