Several years ago I was weeding our strawberry patch. I was amazed at how many roots went out from one weed plant, they seemed to intermingle with the strawberry plants and to be never ending.
God showed me that sin is like the weed roots. There may be a beautiful flower that people can see but the roots of sin permeate into every facet of life. They become so entangled that it is hard to differentiate between the good and bad roots.
Hebrews 12:1-3 says “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
So when we conscientiously acknowledge a root, lay aside the sin root, and keep our eyes on Jesus we too can experience that joy and abundance. “Thus it was beautiful in greatness and in the length of its branches, Because its roots reached to abundant waters.” Ezekiel 17:8
“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17:8
Our abundant water is only found in one place. “Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:13-14
That is the water I have. You can too!
